JottNote Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 21, 2026
JottNote stores all your data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal
information.
1. What Data JottNote Stores
All user-created content is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API
(chrome.storage.local). This includes:
- Notes and their content
- Bookmarks and tags
- Saved sessions (tab groups)
- Templates and placeholders
- Automatic backups of notes
- Your settings and preferences
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
JottNote does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
- Browsing history or activity
- Analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
3. Third-Party Services
JottNote connects to the following external services for specific features. No personal data is sent in these
requests:
- ExchangeRate-API (exchangerate-api.com)
— Fetches current fiat currency exchange rates for Math Mode. Only a standard HTTP request is made; no
user data is included.
- CoinGecko API (coingecko.com) — Fetches
cryptocurrency prices for Math Mode. Only a standard HTTP request is made; no user data is included.
- ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com) — Handles
optional Pro license verification and payment processing. ExtensionPay may collect payment information
(e.g., email, payment method) when you choose to upgrade. Please refer to ExtensionPay's Privacy Policy for details.
4. Permissions Explained
- storage — Save your notes, settings, and bookmarks locally on your device.
- clipboardWrite / clipboardRead — Enable copy and paste functionality within the
extension.
- alarms — Power the built-in timer and automatic backup scheduling.
- tabs — Open bookmarks and session URLs in new tabs; capture current tabs when saving
a session.
- contextMenus — Add right-click options to save selected text or page URLs to
JottNote.
- sidePanel — Allow JottNote to open as a browser side panel.
- bookmarks (optional) — Requested only when you choose to import Chrome bookmarks.
Never accessed without your explicit permission.
5. Data Security
Your data is stored locally using Chrome's storage API, which is sandboxed to the extension and inaccessible to
websites or other extensions. JottNote does not use remote servers or databases to store your content.
6. Data Deletion
You can delete any or all of your data at any time:
- Delete individual notes, bookmarks, or sessions from within JottNote.
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
7. Children's Privacy
JottNote does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Since JottNote does not collect personal
data from any user, no special provisions are required.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date.
Continued use of JottNote after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
